A new program of Senior Slow Pitch Softball is beginning in Knoxville at the Caswell Softball Complex. This is a new and different program that is for those Seniors Co-Ed of Ladies 55+ and men 60+ for thier playing pleasure and to help them toward creating better health by playing a game they may not have access to otherwise.
The only criteria for these people is just the DESIRE to come play and have fun doing so. no pre-requisite of abilities and also allows those with some infirmities to play and participate. There is |
|
NO COST TO THE PLAYER and they will be fully uniformed by sponsors. No boundaries by open to all who come from all distances of this area. Everyone plays.
We expect to have at least 4 teams. There are 11-13 players per team. There are four fields so up to 10 teams can play at one time.

........Feb 02
I know everybody has got cabin fever and ready to get out there and play ball! Spring is just around the corner and it will be time to get out to Caswell Park. For the newcomers to our program we play Senior Citizen Softball every Tuesday & Thursday with the weather permitting. Right now we are scheduled to start the second week in April. We start practicing at 9:30 and start to play at 10. We stop playing around 11:30. This is a non-competitive co-ed games for men 60 plus and women 55 plus. This program is for fun, exercise and meeting new people/friends. Last year we had a couple to meet out there playing ball and they got married last fall. The City of Knoxville provide these fields for us to play on at no charge as long as we play for fun & recreation and not competitive. We do not want anyone to get hurt by playing competitive. Everybody gets to bat and try to make it to base. There is no tag outs, rough or careless plays, no diving for the balls, running into the fences or each other or out of control No tolerance at all for the use of illegal bats or hot bats. There is no discrimination for race or physical ability. We encourage everyone to come out to play or be a spectator.
There was a meeting held on Thursday, January 28th to discuss this years rules. Everyone will sign a pledge stating that they read and understand the rules. Each person will then get a copy of the rules to take with them. At that time we will need to get the phone number to where they can be reached in case the game gets cancelled because of the weather. There is a $10 charge for injury insurance. There is no chargefor the uniforms, a shirt & a hat. Uniforms are provided by sponsors and must be worn. Uniforms will be issued after we find out who will be playing and what sizes are needed.
We encourage each one of you to get the word out about this program. It is a great!!! Once you play or see how it is played you will want to participate. If there is any questions please contact:

Around the
corner I have a friend,
In this great
city that has no end,
Yet the days go
by and weeks rush on,
And before I
know it, a year is gone.
And I never see
my old friends face,
For life is a
swift and terrible race,
He knows
I like him just as well,
As in the days
when I rang his bell.
And he rang
mine but we were younger then,
And now we are
busy, tired men.
Tired of
playing a foolish game,
Tired of trying
to make a name.
'Tomorrow' I
say! 'I will call on Jim
Just to show
that I'm thinking of him.'
But tomorrow
comes and tomorrow goes,
And distance
between us grows and grows.
Around the
corner, yet miles away,
'Here's a
telegram sir,' 'Jim died today.'
And that's what
we get and deserve in the end.
Around the
corner, a vanished friend. |
